The Śrī Yadavagiri-Māhātmya (The Glory of Yadavagiri Tirunārāyaņa-puram (Melukote) holds significant cultural and religious significance as far as the holy town of Śrī Yadavagiri Tirunārāyaņa-Puram (Melukote) is concerned. This text, consisting of 12 Adhyāya-s (chapters) gives a detailed account of the glory of this divine abode of Lord Tiru-Nārāyaņa and Lord Celuva-Nārāyaņa. It further delineates the spiritual merit of visiting and meditating in this holy location, which is also the site of divine manifestations and miracles. The Māhātmya serves to reinforce the notion that pilgrimage to such sacred places purifies the soul and leads to liberation (mokşa). The text not only provides a detailed account of the holiness of Śrī Yādavagiri (Melukote) but also serves as a guide for devotees to understand the spiritual benefits of devotion, prayer, and penance in proximity to these divine sites.”
